Workshop: Pension Funds and European Stock Markets
2004-07-18 21:41

Call for Papers

The European University Viadrina calls for research papers to be submitted for a workshop on "Pension Funds and European Stock Markets". The workshop aims to serve as a venue for knowledge exchange on pension funds in emerging and mature capital markets of continental Europe. Dramatic changes are taking place in the pension industries of Western Europe in response to the increasing aging of populations. The unsustainability of present pay-as-you-go systems has stimulated an expansion of existing private pension funding mechanisms. Additionally, many countries in Central and Eastern Europe introduced pension funds as a part their reformed pay-as-you-go pension systems in the mid 1990s. An analysis of the first decade of experience of pension fund operating in capital markets is of considerable interest for policymakers, regulators and academics.

The primary focus of the workshop is the operation of pension funds in European stock markets. However, papers related to other aspects of pension fund asset allocation and institutional investors are also encouraged. All papers will have a discussant and will be posted on the website of the workshop.

The workshop will take place at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany on November 24-26, 2004. Expenses for travel (economy class round-trip) and accommodation will be partially covered for speakers and discussants.

Research papers (electronic MS Word or pdf versions only) should be sent by July 31, 2004 to: Prof. Dr. Martin T. Bohl, Email: bohl@euv-frankfurt-o.de.

Notifications of acceptance will be sent by August 31, 2004. Authors should confirm their participation by September 15, 2004.

- It was just such an eye opening eperxience. I learned that I need to stop saying try and start saying I am going to .. Basically stop talking in the abstract and start talking in the concrete. If you ever get the chance to attend a Dane Sanders workshop I seriously recommend everyone going.
